Saddle Stitch or Wire:
A method of stitching brochures in which they are opened over a saddle shaped support and stitched through the back.
Saddle stitch:
Binding a booklet or magazine with staples in the seam where it folds.
Sans Serif:
A wide range of typefaces in which there are no finishing strokes. Arial is a common Sans Serif typeface.
Satin Finish:
A smooth finished paper with a sheen to the surface.
Scale:
To identify the percent by which images should be enlarged or reduced.
Scaling wheel:
Alternate term for Proportional scale.
Scanner:
Device used to make color separations, halftones, duo tones and tri tones. Also a device used to scan art, pictures or drawings in desktop publishing.
Score:
To mechanically crease or press a channel into paper along a line so it will fold more easily.
Screen:
A dot pattern used by lithographic presses to reproduce any tone or color that is not a solid.
Screen angles:
Frequently a desktop publishers nightmare. The angles at which halftone, duo tones, tri tones, and color separation printing films are placed to make them look right.
