Galleys: The printing term for long metal trays used to hold type after it has been set but before the press run.

Laid Paper:
Printing or writing paper with a ribbed appearance.
Laid finish:
Simulating the surface of handmade paper.
Laminate:
A thin transparent plastic coating applied to paper or board to provide protection and give it a glossy finish.
Large-format camera:
Camera that makes negatives 4 x 5 or larger.
Laser printing:
Method of photocopying using a laser beam to charge the drum.
Lay Edges:
The edges of a sheet which are placed flush with the side and marks on a printing press to ensure that the sheet will be held properly by the grippers and have uniform margins when printed.

Leading edge:
Edge of a sheet of paper that enters the press first, also known as the Gripper edge.
Leaf:
A sheet in a book. Two pages. The front and back together of a page is called a �leaf�.
Ledger paper:
Strong, smooth bond paper used for keeping business records.
